Connecting Word and Deed

by Mark Edwards, Associate Pastor/Minister of Music

Chapel Choir Tour/Mission Trip
June 10-18, New Orleans

Our teenagers are embarking on some new territory in a few days. In previous years, summer music and mission ventures have been separate trips. We've talked about combining them for several years and now we are doing it.

Our destination is New Orleans where we will be doing a small but significant part of rebuilding some of that city. We are part of MissionLab at New Orleans Baptist Seminary, but working primarily with First Baptist Church, New Orleans, where our Josh Crosby's father is pastor. In cooperation with Habitat for Humanity, that church is currently building forty-three houses in one of the areas hardest hit by hurricane Katrina. We are going to help.

Along the way and during the week, the choir will sing in four churches, including White Sand Baptist Church in Poplarville, Mississippi. Their music director is my friend at whose house our chain saw crew not so coincidentally showed up to remove downed trees five weeks after the hurricane. I told you about him in an Evangel article last October.

Please pray for our crew of sixty as we travel and as we try to connect the words we sing and say to others by the deeds we'll do for people who need some help.
