Frank and to the Point (January 2014)
The Year of Good Health
January is here and with it comes a chance for us to dive into some “New Year’s Resolutions” or other personal commitments that we may have made as we look forward to a new and better year. Your church staff began thinking about a theme for our congregation several months ago and prayerfully determined that 2014 needed to be The Year of Health. Now before you roll your eyes and groan, let me encourage you to think with us for a moment about Health in a broad context. The Year of Health might find us experiencing any or even all of the following:
- A Healthy and Vibrant Spiritual Life
- Healthy and Growing Relationships
- Healthy and Hopeful Thoughts
- A Healthy and Strong Body
- Healthy and Wise Choices for Life and Eternity
I’ll be preaching about these Commitments for Health and Wholeness in January on Sunday mornings to help our congregation embrace this year’s theme. I hope you will join us not only for the worship services, but for small group Bible Study as well. One of the options you will have is the brand new study written by Pastor Rick Warren along physicians, Dr. Daniel Amen and Dr. Mark Hyman, called The Daniel Plan: 40 Days to a Healthier Life. You can download the book or find it in a local bookstore now. I think you’ll find it to be a great source of encouragement as we seek to grow healthier as a congregation in 2014.
Three Worship Services Every Sunday in 2014
A healthy and vibrant spiritual life includes worshipping with other believers. You’ll have three worship options every Sunday morning at First Baptist Nashville in 2014.
The Service of Word and Table is an ancient-modern service with communion meeting each Sunday at 8:15 a.m. in our Chapel. It’s a great way to start the day or stay connected with your church in the event that your schedule doesn’t allow you to join us at 10:30 a.m.
Our Service with Choir and Orchestra meets in the Sanctuary with a traditional blend of hymns and anthems. This service offers a Children’s Feature and showcases the inter-generational strength of our congregation. No matter where you are and regardless of the time of day, you can view this service on streaming video to stay connected with First Baptist Nashville. Go to firstbaptistnashville.org/streaming.
The Fellowship on Broadway meets on the Third Floor of the East Building for now. As soon as the Chapel is completed, they'll meet there. Student Minister Brandon Owen will be preaching with me most Sundays in this new service which features music that is led by a small band each week.
Christ Is All You Need
On Wednesday nights, I hope you will join me for The Pastor’s Bible Study during our Midweek Prayer Service (6:00 p.m.). We’ll be diving into Colossians for a verse-by-verse study starting in January. You’ll find the counsel and direction in this little New Testament epistle to be as fresh and helpful as the words of a trusted friend who knows exactly what you are going through. I hope you’ll join us.
