Frank and to the Point (February 2014)

With the beginning of the new year, First Baptist Nashville has enjoyed an increase in our attendance. Spirits are up and there’s an attitude of expectancy in the air. There is a place for you in one of our three morning worship services: The Service of Word and Table at 8:15 a.m., The Sanctuary Service or The Fellowship on Broadway, both at 10:30 a.m.

The Fellowship on Broadway began here in January and it has exceeded our initial expectations. Here are three things you need to know about the new service.

Who is our Worship Leader?

On most Sundays, Jason Cox, the leader of our worship band, will be with us to lead worship. Jason is a local musician who has over 10 years of worship leadership experience. Jason is a singer/songwriter and is well known and connected in the Christian music community in middle Tennessee. He works with other worship leaders, mentoring new artists and encouraging younger worship leaders, many of whom he will enlist to lead worship in The Fellowship on Broadway in his absence. We feel this is a great opportunity for us to experience and encourage future worship leaders as we grow into this new service. Jason is married to Lena, both are Belmont graduates, and they have a home in Franklin.

Who is our preacher and what's the message?

The Fellowship on Broadway and The Sanctuary Service follow the same sermon series and dig into the same Scripture texts each week. Brandon Owen, our minister to students/missions, meets with me weekly to talk through my preaching plans so that he can share the message in his own way in the new service. Because I want to be a part of both services, I usually introduce the sermon in The Fellowship on Broadway before joining The Sanctuary Service. There will be some weeks when Brandon and I swap places.

Where does it meet and is there room to grow?

The Fellowship on Broadway meets on the 3rd Floor of the East Building until the Chapel renovations are complete. When it moves to the Chapel, seating will max out at about 250. (On our second Sunday, 214 attended.) As the Lord blesses us with more people who are drawn to this new service, we will find a way to welcome them! Eventually, new space in Phase One of our Master Plan will become available, providing plenty of room for growth.
