“Courage for Living” Book Signing - TONIGHT

October 26   |   4 – 6 p.m.; 7 – 7:30 p.m.   |   Fellowship Hall Lobby

“Courage for Living” is a work of historical fiction featuring Harriet Virginia Maxwell Overton (1832-1899). Harriet was a native of Nashville, educated at the Nashville Female Academy, and in 1850 married John Overton II, entering into the colorful history of the Overton family. The Civil War proved a worthy challenge for Harriet. In the absence of her soldier husband, she managed the large plantation at Travellers Rest with its fifty slaves. Her southern pride and social activities continued in a post war Nashville and throughout her lifetime. Join us for a book signing TONIGHT October 26, from 4 – 6 p.m. and 7 – 7:30 p.m. in the Fellowship Hall Lobby. The author is our own, Tom Clark. Books will be available for purchase.

Operation Christmas Child

Operation Christmas Child is far more than a gift-giving ministry. Beyond the boxes themselves, these tangible expressions of God’s love open doors for the greatest gift to be shared—the gift of the Savior. These gifts become Gospel opportunities, opening hurting hearts to experience the transforming power of Jesus Christ throughout our world. This journey starts with you filling a shoe box and praying for the child who will receive your box.

Operation Christmas Child Shoe Box Collection bins are located at the main entrances of the church. Children are invited to bring their boxes with them to the Children’s Feature during worship on Sunday, November 13, the last day of collection.

There are brochures available in the Foyer with complete directions on what you should and should not include. We also encourage you to visit samaritanspurse.org/occ and print out the “Follow Your Box” form in order to track your box around the world.

Visual Arts Open-Studio

Our Arts Service Group is now sponsoring a weekly Open-Studio. We invite professional or experienced artists and art students to hone their skills with “real people” as models, initially residents of Room In The Inn. We will continue with models from other ministries, businesses, condos, etc: simply “real” people from our “neighborhood” needing to be seen and touched in creative ways by the body of Christ. Come meet every Thursday from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. with a break for our ongoing Business Lunch.

If you have any questions or interest, please contact Kenna Eaton at kennae@comcast.net, 483.2597.

Lost & Found

We have many things collecting in the office that may have been lost by you and found by us. Some of these items include reading/eyeglasses, Bibles, articles of clothing, umbrellas and much more. We are going to begin sorting through and donating or tossing things at the end of every month. If you’ve lost it and want to find it, come visit us at the office to see if we have it. The shelves will be cleaned out tomorrow.

Room In The Inn

It’s time to pull together and serve our homeless community. On Sunday evenings from November through March we will host 28 men and women in our Recreation Center from 6 p.m. – 6 a.m. We will provide dinner, breakfast, and a sack lunch. Volunteers staff this ministry—primarily our Sunday School classes and departments.

In addition to opportunities to serve through your class or department, individual volunteers are needed to help occasionally assist classes with set-up, meals, overnight “inn-keeping,” and laundry. This is a wonderful opportunity for families and individuals to donate part of an evening in ministry.

Children and youth are welcome and have helped frequently. Room In The Inn is a mission effort directed to those literally at our doorstep. Hebrews 13:2 reminds us to show hospitality to strangers and that by doing so, some have entertained angels. Come join! You might meet an angel!

There are 20 Sunday nights that we serve our guests. Please notify Rus Roach with which nights your group can help. A full list of responsibilities is available in the Main Office or by clicking here. Call soon to reserve your dates!
