Hundreds of new international students, including many with families, are arriving in the Nashville area this time of year who would like to have an American friend. InterFACE Ministries works with area universities and schools to help the Church reach them. A one-time commitment is available called EAT (Experience American Tastes), in which you open your home to two to four international visitors and prepare an American meal for them. You may choose one or two Sunday nights, September 18 or November 6.
A monthly opportunity to minister to the same student or student family called “First Friends” is also available. You and your family will join your student about once a month for a meal or a trip to shopping, church, sports, or school events of mutual interest so he or she may learn first-hand about American customs from you, their Christian friends.
Charles and Barbara Parker, members of First Baptist Nashville and local missionaries to this group ask for your help. They need to hear from you in just the next few weeks so a timely match may be made with your student!
They will be at their display on Sunday in the church lobby so you can pick up an application, or you may contact Charles Parker at 367.4387 or cap3105@bellsouth.net.
Dear Church Family,
No one could have felt more love and care during the passing of a loved one. Your cards and calls have been a wonderful ministry to us and we thank you for your thoughtfulness.
With much appreciation,
Frank and Shirley Leebern
The Safety and Security Committee is in need of additional volunteers for the remainder of this year and then in 2012! This is a serving ministry aimed at providing safety and security to our church membership and guests during Sunday morning and Sunday evening activities. Members are asked to serve one Sunday a month in one of the security areas. The committee is composed of qualified church members who are in good physical health. We want to make sure that all members of the committee are well trained in building security procedures by providing the necessary basic training twice a year (the next one will be in October). We welcome male and female volunteers to serve our church.

Thursday Nights | 7 – 9 p.m. | Rec Center
Get those athletic shoes on, grab your water bottle and head on over to the Rec Center on Thursday nights for basketball or volleyball! Join a group of church members who want some gym time in the evenings. We’ll be alternating weeks between basketball and volleyball. Come join your church friends for some healthy competition!
Bring a friend along who needs to know First Baptist Nashville is a phenomenal place to be!
October 14 – 16 | Thompson Station
Students, join us at the 2011 Fall Retreat! This retreat is a time for all students in 7 – 12 grades to come together for a weekend of God encounters, fun, and fellowship together at the Deer Run Retreat Center. Students will arrive back at the church on the morning of October 16 in time for worship. Keep your eyes open for more details!

For over 25 years, the homeless population in Nashville has been assisted in the winter months through the organization Room In The Inn (RITI), and for 24 years, First Baptist Nashville has been a partner alongside their service.
Currently, it is preparation time and we are collecting new or gently used twin bed sheets and wash cloths. We have plenty of towels but if you have some new ones to donate then we can replace some well-used ones. Isn’t it great to sleep on new fresh sheets or have a great new towel when you step out of the shower?
Our guests deserve no less than our best when they stay with us.
Help us provide the best for them with your donations in August.
If you have any questions, contact Rus Roach at 664.6021, rus.roach@firstbaptistnashville.org.
