Intermittent Street Closures
The Music City Center Team's goal is to build the project with the least amount of disruption to downtown traffic, although intermittent street closures on Demonbreun and Fifth Avenue South are expected throughout the project.
April 1, 2010 UPDATE
Today through April 9, blasting will occur three times a day and excavating will take place 24 hours a day to remove the ramp to the BridgeStone Arena which goes under Demonbreun. On Easter Sunday morning there will be no blasting, and Sixth Avenue and Demonbreun will remain open.
March 31, 2010 UPDATE
Currently, portions of Demonbreun Street between 6th Ave and 8th Ave are closed for underground utility work. During this time, Demonbreun Street is expected to remain open to two-way traffic, however, all lanes may have to close for some period of time. In that case, appropriate detours will be clearly marked. 6th Ave S and 7th Ave S will be closed between Demonbreun and Franklin Street for the duration of construction of the Music City Center. All streets surrounding our campus will remain open.
February 8, 2010 UPDATE
Beginning February 8, 2010, a portion of Demonbreun Street between Seventh and Eighth avenues will be closed for approximately 2-4 weeks for underground utility relocation. Once work between Seventh and Eighth avenues is complete, a portion of Demonbreun between Seventh and Sixth avenues will be closed to allow the utility relocation to continue. During this time, Demonbreun Street is expected to remain open to two-way traffic. However, depending on the scope of the utility relocation, all lanes on Demonbreun between Seventh and Eighth avenues may have to close for some period of time. In that case, traffic would be detoured through the construction site.
Street Closure Plan for the Duration of Project Construction
Once all of the parcels are acquired, several streets will be closed for the duration of construction:
• Sixth Avenue South from Demonbreun to Shirley / Franklin Street
• Seventh Avenue South from Demonbreun to Shirley / Franklin Street
• Clark Place at Eighth Avenue South
• Shirley / Franklin Street: Portions will be open to local traffic only. No through traffic.
• Eastbound turning lane on Demonbreun between Fifth and Sixth avenues
As a result of the long-term street closures, all streets and alleys between Shirley / Franklin Street and Peabody Street will become dead end streets, accessible to local traffic only. Sixth Avenue South will become a two-way street between Shirley Shirley / Franklin Street and Peabody Street, also accessible to local traffic only.
All sidewalks on the perimeter of the site also will be closed.
