Merry TUBACHRISTMAS Nashville!

The 20th annual MERRY TUBACHRISTMAS NASHVILLE concert will be presented at First Baptist Church, 7th Avenue and Broadway, 12:30 p.m. on Tuesday, December 19, 2006. This free 45 minute concert will feature Christmas carols played by a mass choir of over 100 tubas - the sound resembles a gigantic pipe organ. The audience will be invited to sing along with the tubas.

Performers will range in age from Junior High School through retirement and will drive in from a 100 mile radius of Nashville for this annual event. This year's concert is sponsored by the Harvey Phillips Foundation and First Baptist Church. Directing the concert will be Mr. Garnett R. Davis, who is Professor of Tuba at Blair School of Music, Vanderbilt University.

The Nashville concert is one of scores of MERRY TUBACHRISTMAS concerts being given free of charge throughout the United States, Canada, Europe and Japan this year. TUBACHRISTMAS concerts have been held each year since 1974 when the first ones were sponsored by Professor Harvey Phillips in Bloomington, Indiana, and at New York's Rockefeller Center Plaza (by the Christmas tree). The New York concert is still the largest and most popular one, sometimes attracting as many as 500 players.

TUBACHRISTMAS has been featured each year by the television networks (including the TODAY show and CBS SUNDAY MORNING) as well as many of the nation's most prominent newspapers. TUBACHRISTMAS concerts are sponsored by the Foundation to give greater exposure to the tuba, allow young and old tuba players a chance to contribute to the spirit of the season, and to honor one of the greatest tubists of all time, the late William Bell, who was born on Christmas Day in 1902.
