First Baptist Nashville is helping to build another home for a wonderful family this fall. Our dates are Saturday and Sunday, October 22 - 23. This year we are wanting our 20 and 30-year-old adults to lead the way. Our slots are limited to 10 on Saturday and 20 on Sunday. Because of this and because many of our mission events are not conducive for young families to participate in, we are reserving our slots for them if possible. So come on, younger adults--reserve a place for yourself and friends--it's a great outreach/service opportunity.

On Sunday evenings from November through March we will host 28 men and women in our Recreation Center from 6:00 p.m. - 6:00 a.m. We will provide dinner, breakfast, and a sack lunch. I had a great experience with the First Baptist Nashville Mountain Movers men in Kalispell, Montana, this summer, serving with Easthaven Baptist Church, visiting with Pastor Daniel Lambert and friends, and learning what the Lord is doing to change their community for Christ. It makes me think of home, Nashville, and of my community where I live, and of your community where you live. You probably know that our work is not to just build a great church in our city, but rather to be the church that builds a great community for Christ. We are about community transformation, one person at a time. As school begins and our fall start-up opportunities crank up, we think of new opportunities for each of our First Baptist Nashville members and attendees to help our city know Christ personally.

For the seventh year, First Baptist Nashville has cooperated with Church of the Messiah to conduct a four-day medical mission clinic. Services provided were dental care, eye exams and fitting of glasses, general health assessments, blood pressure and stroke screening, mental health assessments and referrals, and bone density screening. This year we saw nearly 300 people.

On July 23 - 30, First Baptist Nashville high school seniors will be traveling to serve on mission in Guatemala City, Guatemala. Among our service we will help to build a home, sand and paint desks in a nearby school, and fellowship with the local Guatemalans. The First Baptist Nashville Family Mission Trip to Elizabethton, Tennessee, is fast approaching. We will serve with Hale Ministries August 4 - 7 and will work on Backyard Bible Clubs, a neighborhood block party, Soles for Souls, nursing home visits, a a teen event, clothes closet and food pantry. Our theme this year is "Back to School" and will include the distribution of backpacks filled with school supplies.

When I was first invited by my mother to work at Bonnaroo, I must say that I was a bit hesitant. I did not know much about the festival other than it was a place where thousands of college-aged kids gathered to listen to bands of their generation. I was unaware of the lack of electricity, running water, and food that did not cost an arm and a leg. Once my mother told me what it was like and the kind of work we would be doing, I knew that such an opportunity does not come often and I needed to go.

Join us as our group of 68 students and sponsors share from their experiences while on Mission for God in San Diego, California, this summer. Our Youth Choir will also sing a number of songs, which were included as a part of our concert tour repertoire. We ministered through leading Vacation Bible School with First Baptist Clairemont, of San Diego; Set Free Ministries in El Cajon, California; Myanmar Community Church, a Burmese congregation; and Iglesia Alpha y Omega (Alpha and Omega Church), a Hispanic congregation. Our Youth Choir also presented concerts and shared the love of Christ in various civic venues, worked in the San Diego Food Bank, provided ministry to the homeless, and sang the National Anthem at a San Diego Padres Baseball Game.

Urban Housing Solutions is our non-profit organization during June. They are Nashville's affordable, permanent housing provider. Urban Housing Solutions owns and operates 22 properties in the Nashville area, transforming established apartment complexes into beautiful communities. Their residents include those who were homeless, the mentally ill and physically disabled, individuals living with HIV/AIDS, people in recovery from drug and alcohol addiction, and other low-income individuals and families who simply need an affordable place to live.

We'll provide clothing to many of Nashville's homeless on the first and third Sunday afternoons of each month from 3:00 - 4:45 p.m. We need your help in assisting those in need of clothing. Once again, Sister Cities is hosting a college student from Caen this summer who will work in Mayor Karl Dean's office. We are seeking housing for the student (male) for one month; we understand that he is coming in July. As a host, your responsibility is to provide him a room and meals. Additionally he will need help getting to the Courthouse during the week--either taking the bus or being driven.
