Friday, February 3, marks a milestone at First Baptist Nashville. It’s the one-year anniversary of a new ministry that is touching hundreds of lives. Every Friday at 7:00 p.m., there are scores of people who gather in the East Building to worship, find encouragement, and work on healing from a hurt, destructive habit, or frustrating hang-up. Some come from area recovery programs and others are residents of the larger Nashville community and/or church members. A number of volunteers assist with food and coffee set-up, staffing the welcome table, running the computer and generally being a smiling face to our guests.
On the first Friday of each month, we have dinner at 6:00 p.m. followed by the program at 7:00 p.m. Hundreds have attended at least one of the meetings, as the group tends to turn over about every three months as many are helped and move on and others take their place. Normal attendance is 50 to 60 with occasional crowds of 90.
You are welcome to visit any Friday. This is a Christian 12-step program that hundreds of thousands worldwide are finding very helpful. We could use more volunteers—especially anyone with 12-step experience. The growth of the program is only limited by the number of volunteers that we have.
