by Shannon Meadors, minister to children
I had a birthday last month. With each birthday comes a time of reflection for me of the past year and of my life. And one thing that I've noticed in this time of introspection: the seasons of my life where I had intention and passion in the practice of my spiritual disciplines, I have mightily seen the hand of God at work. Now, take note: this doesn't mean that these times in my life were always easy or what we would consider to be prosperous. Rather they were times when I could see that God was keeping His promise of working all things together for my good.
This past year has been one of those years. My husband Kyle and I, for the first time in our marriage, made a commitment to read scripture and pray together each morning at the breakfast table. As our children were finishing their Eggo waffles with Dora the Explorer as our background music, I experienced a time of connection with my husband and together we connected with God.
It was during one of these mornings that Kyle and I both stopped and realized that God was calling me back into ministry. Just a few hours later, a former pastor called and asked if he could pass my name along to First Baptist Nashville. Tom Crow called me that afternoon. You know the rest of the story.
These events probably would have taken place regardless of our commitment of scripture reading and prayer. But I believe in the Sovereignty of God and I believe that our time spent with Him allowed us the opportunity to participate in His wonderful works.
Tonight, I'm going to set my alarm clock a few minutes earlier in order once again to have this time with my husband. I want a front row seat to watch the hand of God at work in my family, my church, and my world.
