I want you to know a fine young man helping our ministry and outreach to collegiate students...his name is Cody T. Carroll, and he's engaged to be married in June. He and his fiancé Amber Garrett are active members of First Baptist Nashville. He serves as our College Intern and is also a Vanderbilt student in neuroscience, Spanish, and Latin American Studies. Cody has shared his testimony with me; I know you will enjoy reading it also...
As a Christian of 12 years and a senior Neuroscience major at Vanderbilt, all I know is Jesus and the brain. However, given my involvement at First Baptist as the College Ministry Intern, I need to add "College Ministry" to my repertoire. During this interim period for the Student Ministry, I serve as the primary liaison between the College Ministry and the rest of the church body, strengthening the ministry by teaching Bible Study on Sunday mornings, organizing community-building experiences, and connecting college students with First Baptist. I have learned quite a bit about how to effectively minister to collegians, and the key is community. College students need to feel connected, and the College Ministry at First Baptist is actively pursuing this: in addition to our weekly Sunday Bible study, we have bi-weekly fellowships and participate in mission volunteer projects throughout Nashville once a month. I am developing some other opportunities for both our "home-grown" and local collegians, and if you love college students or have a vision for the College Ministry at First Baptist, I could certainly use your help!
