Frank and to the Point

I'm writing this article about two weeks before Election Day and more than likely, you are reading it a day or two following the results. What a time for our nation! A volatile economy, uncertainty concerning the best strategies for the continued war on terrorism, a growing lack of trust with corporate America, and a sense--according to several polls--that many are not optimistic about our future. I trust that you will pause today and pray for our newly elected leaders. Unless they have God's help, we are all in trouble.

What do you do in times of uncertainty? I've often felt that the best strategy for the Christian is to reaffirm the things you know for certain.

I know that God loves me. (John 3:16)

I know that God has a plan for our future that is filled with hope. (Jeremiah 29:11)

I know that the Lord is good and His love endures forever; His faithfulness continues through all generations. (Psalm 100:5)

I know that there is in store for me a crown of righteousness that will not fade away. (2 Timothy 4:8)

I know that this is what He promised us--even eternal life. (1 John 2:25)

In a few weeks we will gather with friends and family members to celebrate God's goodness for the uniquely Christian celebration of Thanksgiving. We'll start thinking about Advent and look forward to the celebration of Christ's birth. Then we will welcome a new calendar year. In doing so we will discover one of God's special gifts, for in the midst of all of the uncertainty and volatility in our world, God allows us to experience changing seasons that are a continual reminder of His provisions for all that life brings.

I trust you find these words encouraging. God is in control, and as we affirm that in worship, privately and corporately, the peace that passes all understanding can be ours in abundance.

I'll see you Sunday!
