Frank and to the Point
 First Baptist will gather for First Night on Sunday, August 3. It's an important time for us to deal with some items of church business and to hear the good reports of ministry that has taken place as our people have been building bridges in Jesus' name. I look forward to seeing you there.
We've had a good summer in many ways at First Baptist Nashville. Each week we've had a number of first-time guests in our worship services. Our attendance has been strong and your giving has been steady. Even with construction in our fellowship hall interrupting our regular traffic patterns at church, we are experiencing a good time on Wednesday nights. Josh carried a great group of students to camp, mission teams are going around the globe this month, and even with Paul Clark, FBC's interim minister of music, being out for a few weeks, the choir continues to provide faithful leadership to our worship services each week.
Please keep all these things in your prayers. Pray for the work of our Minister of Music Search Committee and our Children's Ministry Search Committee. We need the Lord to give guidance and blessing to the work of both committees as they seek to find new ministers to serve alongside us. While you are at it, please lift up the rest of your church ministry staff. We're all feeling the pinch that comes with vacancies on our team.
Speaking of which, I know you will join me in welcoming Kim Hester back to our support team. No one is happier about this than your pastor! Kim is joining us on an interim basis to assist with some administrative responsibilities. We are also very pleased to welcome Rebekah Weber as First Baptist Nashville's new communications specialist. Click here to read more about her!
Blessings! |

Dear Xtraordinary Sunday School Leader, Another adventure awaits us in the new Sunday School year. We'll unearth and apply the principles of the Discover Triad as taught by LifeWay Sunday School Director, David Francis. Join us on Sunday, August 24, immediately after the worship service. Please make plans to attend this event and to stay for a training workshop until 2:30 p.m. that afternoon. This invitation is open to all leaders, workers, and others interested in furthering the gospel message through our Sunday School. We'll enjoy a wonderful lunch in the Fellowship Hall at 11:45 a.m.-free to you! You will LOVE the new look of Fellowship Hall! Our theme this year is The Discover Triad--scripture, stories and shepherding through Sunday School. We're ready for a great year of discovery through life-changing Bible study at First Baptist Nashville. Please make lunch and childcare reservations on or before Sunday, August 17, by calling Lori at 615-664-6001. Don't miss out-the journey is on! Being a Good Steward Makes a Difference... |
by Bill Bailey, Stewardship Development Committee Member
My wife Ann and I have been members at First Baptist Nashville for almost four years, and Ann teaches a Bible class each Sunday. We have come to realize the importance of and appreciation for the involvement of so many people in the varied ministries of First Baptist Nashville!
We are really thrilled that our gifts and your gifts help...
• the Tennessee Baptist Convention aid and support people in times of need through disaster relief projects;
• mission trips more numerous than we can recall and to more locales than I can imagine;
• ongoing ministries in the city and region to touch lives for Christ;
• change lives and influence people each Sunday at First Baptist Nashville--from those who are mobile, to those just getting along physically, to those heroes of faith who persevere in the face of challenging physical difficulties to be in the Lord's House.
So, a special thanks to each and every one who makes possible the ministries of First Baptist Nashville through gifts...and for those who help administer and give oversight for the effective use of gifts providing ministries, personnel, facilities, and missions!
We hope YOU are part of the answer in your faithfulness and gifts. |

Moon Pies, Munchkins, Music and Mulch |
by Carol Ann Shull
Seven families were represented on the Family Mission Trip to Elizabethton, Tennessee, July 3-6. The mission team worked with Hale Community Ministries which serves low income families living in the apartments nearby. Mission projects included visits to two nursing homes, a prayer walk, two backyard Bible clubs, a Fourth of July block party, packing food bags in the food pantry, weed pulling, and mulching around the office. Our recreational activity was a two hour rafting trip down the Watauga River, complete with water gun fights loaded with "Arctic" water. A few crazy people even jumped in the river, although none stayed more than 15 seconds! During the Friday night family devotion, we prayed by name for as many people as we could remember from our projects. Each person holds a special person in his or her heart with whom he demonstrated Christ's love. We were blessed with great leadership from Jason and Elizabeth Rogers and wonderful talent from our children and youth. Special thanks to the Missions Committee for all of their support, to our VBS kids for the boxes of oatmeal, and to you, our church family, for all of your prayers. |

Impacting Your Children |
by Melita Thomas
Parenting is no easy task...godly parenting even more so. I have the privilege of undergirding those who are parents. As I teach kindergartners in Sunday School and second and third-graders in choir, I am partnering with parents to help lay the foundations for spiritual development in their children. I take seriously the challenge issued by Pastor Frank at every family dedication--to do all I can to strengthen and support families, to teach, and to serve.
Every Sunday morning you can find me sitting on the floor, up to my neck in blocks, with sleeves rolled up and paint on my elbow, or tasting invisible foods carefully prepared by future chefs. It sounds like fun (and it certainly is), but it's more than just play. It's intentional teaching that allows children to learn the way God designed. I teach alongside a team of committed teachers whose goal is to help children develop positive attitudes about church, the Bible, and God and begin to understand that they can do what the Bible teaches. It is this foundation that can ultimately lead to salvation and spiritual transformation.
By investing in the lives of children and families in this church, I am impacting the present as well as the future. This is a gift I can give parents...not to supersede them in their God-given role, but to walk alongside them, partner with them, strengthen and encourage them as they raise their children in "the nurture and admonition of the Lord" (Eph. 6:4). What a privilege! |

Camp 2008 in the Wild West |
|
Wild West summer camp 2008 was no less than a phenomenal experience in the lives of the nearly 90 students who attended this year--several of whom were guests! Through the ministry of worship leader Sara Beth Geoghegan, camp speaker/pastor Jason Britt, and our adult counselors, our week in Panama City Beach was more than just a camp--it was an encounter with God. Our students and counselors were challenged by Jason concerning the issues of self-centeredness, sexual purity, forgiveness, loving other people, and what it means to find significance through valuing above all else our relationship with Christ and following Him. We praise God for the students who made a decision to follow Christ for the first time during Camp this year and thank Him for the opportunity to see significant spiritual maturity in many other students. Thank you, church, for your prayers and support for this ministry. Without you it would not be possible to have this tremendous experience of growth in the Kingdom of God!

We're Building The Bridge |
|
First Baptist Nashville is building The Bridge, a worship service for college students that will help them connect with others for spiritual growth and ministry. You are invited to join us in prayer for this ministry to our college community on Tuesday, August 19, 2008 from 8:15 - 9:30 p.m. in the Sanctuary. Pastor Frank and Josh Crosby will lead us in worship through prayer and Dave Hunt will lead us in worship through song. This is your time, church family, to join us at the altar in prayer for returning students, for those headed back to campus, and for those who may not know Christ.
Our first night of worship with students will take place on Tuesday, August 26 at 8:15 p.m. If you would like to assist us with snack preparation, transportation (approved church van drivers please), host, hostess or prayer partner please let us know.
