Retirement Announcement
Crosspoint 2007 Wrap-Up
by Suzanne Robertson, FBC member
Forty-three children and 10 adults from FBC Nashville arrived at Crosspoint for five days of learning about God, using sports and Bible studies as teaching tools. Our group was there with about 10 other churches at Crosspoint, held on the campus of Carson-Newman College June 23 – 27. From flag football to swimming to tennis and more, our kids learned more about their chosen sports while applying Bible truths about faith and about how God is their friend and will always be there for them. The week’s key verse was Jeremiah 29:11. Making new friends and sharing stories, the group played hard, listened well and learned a lot. The cafeteria’s unlimited soft-serve ice cream machine was also a big hit.
Led by Children’s Minister Connie Hartzell, counselors in our group were Randy Atkins, Ronnie Boling, Bob Bunn, Carol Bryson, Brad Dunn, Bill Greer, Susie Roberson, Suzanne Robertson, and Jim Schremmer.
Pura Vida!
by Josh Crosby, minister to students
What an amazing experience we had in Costa Rica! I’d like to thank the church for your support of prayer and finances to make this mission trip happen for our recent graduates. God was glorified through our efforts and His name was carried throughout the small towns of La Fresca, Jicaral, and Las Pampas.
I’d like to recognize our adult leadership who made this trip happen—each one played a vital role in the success of this trip and I am very grateful.
Thanks to: Brandon Owen (Team Leader), Lesley Ann Owen (Nurse), Donna Baumgartner, Beth Ervin (Admin), Rus Roach, Bill Choate, Carrie Crow (Interpreter). I’d also like to thank Laurie Hall and Bonnie Holmes for their administrative work in the church office.
Trips like this cannot happen without tremendous help from lay leadership, so know that you are a blessing.

Lurking in the Bushes or in Plain Sight?

Protecting Your Child from Sexual Predators
It is nearly impossible to watch the news without hearing a story about another sex abuse case. It’s no longer just the dirty-old-man in a trench coat or the stalking weirdo. It can be somebody your family trusts and even somebody you really love. Here are some discussion points for your family:
1) Keep talking. Keep communications open. This will make for a safe place where tough issues can be shared.
2) Discuss boundaries. Everybody needs to know there are sexual limits. Nobody has the right to invade another person’s sexual space without permission. Preschoolers and children need to hear simple ideas like the Bathing Suit and Hoola Hoop Rules: “Don’t let anybody touch you where you wear your swim suit” or “Pretend you have a Hoola Hoop around you. Nobody should get in that space.” (Obviously parents need to explain exceptions like the family doctor or Mommy and Daddy.) Teenagers need to be warned about how easily sexual experiences get out of hand and how limits should be set in advance.
3) Be informed. Access the TBI list of sex offenders and search the list with your zip code if you want to know about your community.
4) Be sure. If things seem odd and your gut feeling warns you about certain individuals who interact with your child, talk to a professional who can help you look at your concerns and work on minimizing the risks for your family.
5) Get help. If you or your family has been affected by sexual abuse, do not keep it a secret. Find someone who has the expertise and compassion to help you heal from the pain.
Have You Turned In Your Interest Survey?
Are there committees you would be interested in serving on (e.g. prayer, flower, personnel, missions, etc.)? If so, be sure to complete the Committee Interest Survey!
You may do this online at firstbaptistnashville.org or get a copy of the survey from the education office or from your Sunday School teacher.
Your responses will help the Nominating Committee as they begin to fill committee positions for the 2008 – 2010 term.

August Golf Trip
Our second annual golfing trip for church members and their guests will be August 25 – 26. We will be traveling to Muscle Shoals, Alabama, to play The Shoals, another Robert Trent Jones Alabama Golf Trail resort. These Trail courses are rated among the best public courses in the country. They are beautiful, playable but challenging, and always in excellent condition. Plus, they have GPS on the carts! The cost per person will be approximately $300, including golf and lodging. We will play twice on Saturday and once on Sunday.
For more information, please contact Recreation Committee Chairman Kevin McGhee at 482-6406.
Heart of a Servant
HEART of a SERVANT is coming this Fall. HEART of a SERVANT is all about building bridges to our community by serving others.
How can you get involved and serve? You might have already heard about our big project—building our third Habitat for Humanity home. We will be building the last four weekends in September and need 15 workers for each day—so we’ll need 120 people to volunteer to work on the construction site. We will also need additional volunteers to handle breakfast, lunch, snacks and drinks for the workers each day.
