Prayer and Schools
PUBLISHED IN THE EVANGEL // July 30, 2007by Melanie Dunn, FBC member
After 14 years of having little boys at home with me during the day, it’s hard to imagine that our youngest son, Spencer, will be starting Kindergarten in just a few days. Completing his enrollment paperwork, I’ve answered questions such as “Does he separate easily from his parents?” or “Does he handle change?” I confidently told the teachers he would do just fine.
But what about me? How will I do?
As I reflect on his readiness, Proverbs 22:6 comes to mind. “Train a child in the way he should go, and when he is old he will not turn from it.” My prayer is we’ve trained Spencer in the way he should go, but I’ll be fervently praying for him all the way! I’ll pray that he’ll be wise, strong, and pure as he makes choices. I’ll pray he has fun learning new ideas and concepts. I’ll pray for his physical safety as he enters this new chapter in his life. And I’ll pray he will always remember how much I love him while he is away from me. I will pray!
Church family, will you join me in praying for Spencer and for all the children at FBC as they start school? And will you pray for me and other parents like me that we’ll make wise decisions as we raise our children “in the way [they] should go”?
