Adult 1A Celebrates Marriage

Last month, leaders Phil and Penny Anderson, marriage counselors from the staff of First Baptist Charlotte, NC, gave more than thirty couples from Adult 1A the opportunity to celebrate marriage in a two-day retreat. One of Phil’s many messages was that “God desires that we understand our differences and draw closer to one another, not apart.” The Andersons encouraged the couples to celebrate their personality differences, celebrate the growth that comes from con-flict, celebrate creativeness in romance, and celebrate oneness—our calling from Genesis 2:24. With marriages that ranged from as short as one month to more than ten years, the diverse group of couples responded to the Andersons’ teaching over five study sessions, sharing their experiences and encouraging each other on their journeys as couples.

Rainy weather couldn’t dampen the spirits of the couples at Camp Garner Creek, about an hour from Nashville. With the supervision of Executive Pastor Tom Crow, the retreat was coordinated and organized entirely by members of the department who provided worship leadership, sound and video, food and fellowship during free time, interactive “ice-breaker” games, souvenir t-shirts, in-room welcome bags, door prizes, and Saturday night’s bonfire.
